Arum nigrum

Schott 1857

This species is native to the South of Balkans. It belongs to the section Dioscoridea, subsection Dischroochiton.
Its inflorescence is dark purple, about 19 cm tall with peduncle.



It blooms in early May. The spadix smells unpleasantly. The plant is hardy down to -12°C.
Grows well in shady position with dampish, heavy soil rich in organic matter.
