General Information

COMMON NAMES: Pycreus Sedge, Bunchy Sedge

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Vayavaya (PK)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE pantropical, except Pacific Islands; EXOTIC EXOTIC Pacific Islands, including Cooks

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Polynesian, Naturalised; Land, lowlands - mountains (+)?

KEY FEATURES: Tufted sedge. STEM 3-angled, to 60cm and 2mmØ. LEAVES BASAL shorter than stem. LEAVES TERMINAL 3-6, to 20cm, angled-upward. INFLOR irregular cluster to 5cmØ, rays usually short, sometimes to 7cm. SPIKELTES flat, linear, to 25x2mm, with 10-40 brown scales. NUT dark brown, 1mm long.
