Scientific Description:

Height 10−80 cm. Stems longitudinally striped, ± sericeous-woolly. Cauline leaves similar to basal, sericeous; basal linear to linear-lanceolate, incl. petiole (c. 2 cm) 6−16 × 0.4−2(−3) cm, 2−3-pinnatisect into setaceous segments, rachis 0.4−0.8 mm, not toothed, ultimate segments acuminate, often crowded, 0.1−0.3(−0.5) mm broad; median cauline 1.5−6 × 0.3−1 cm. Capitula 40−150 and more, corymbs 2.5−9 cm broad, peduncles 0.5−3 mm. Involucre oblong to linear-oblong, 3−4.5 × l.5−2.5(−3) mm. Phyllaries oblong to lanceolate, subacute to acute, with narrow pallid (not brown) margins, pubescent. Ligules 4−6, white, 1−1.2 mm; disc flowers 10−20.

 

Flowering time: May−August.

Habitat: Steppe, stony slopes, meadows and fallow fields, s.l−2300 m.

Public Description:

Achillea setacea, commonly known as “ayvabala” in Turkish, is native to Asia and Europe. It is a perennial plant with white flowers, which can grow up to 80 cm in length, and hair-covered leaves look like silky. It blooms between May and August and is found in steppe, stony slopes, meadows, fallow fields. Dried flowers are used diarrhea cutter, wound healer and also against abdominal pain. This plant of essential oils showed antimicrobial activity against some bacteria and fungi, e.g. Proteus vulgaris, Salmonella thyphimurium and Candida albicans.
