Scientific Description:

Plant 15−30 cm tall, stems simple or branched from base, usually hispid, rarely glabrous. Flowers solitary or in panicles. Calyx lobes (7−)10−l6(−20) mm, mostly ¼ − ½ × ovary at flowering time. Corolla broadly campanulate, 15−20 mm, white at base, blue in middle, apex violet. Filaments with broad ciliate base. Ovary over 15 mm, much elongated after flowering. Capsule 20−30 mm, cylindrical, not constricted at apex. Seeds orbicular, 0.9−1 mm.

 

Flowering time: April−June.

Habitat: Dry open places, fields, s.l.−2000 m.

Public Description:

Legousia pentagonia, known as “looking glass”, is native to South Balkans, Türkiye, West Syria, Georgia, North Iraq and West Iran. It is an annual herb with blue-violet flowers with white center, and grows up to 30 cm in length. It blooms between April and June and is found in dry open places and fields.
