Orobanche minorSm. - Lesser Broom-rape

Scientific Description:

Stem 10−50 cm, glandular-pilose. Flowers lax at base of spike. Bracts usually equalling flowers. Calyx halves undivided or bidentate; teeth usually long subulate-acuminate, often diverging, 3-veined near base, 1-veined near tip, glandular-pilose, usually equalling corolla tube. Corolla cylindrical, 10–18 mm, slightly curved forward, yellowish-white, upper lip light violet or bluish, usually chiefly on veins, glabrous or glandular-pilose; whole dorsal line usually curved; limb glabrous. Stamens inserted 2−3 mm above corolla base, filaments usually sparingly pilose near base, anthers shortly acuminate. Stigma usually purple or violet, rarely lilac, yellow, light brown or white.

 

Flowering time: April−June.

Habitat: Often on Leguminosae, s.l.−2000 m.

Public Description:

Orobanche minor, known as “lesser broom-rape”, is native to Türkiye and Southern Europe, but has been widely introduced elsewhere. It is a parasitic herb with yellowish-white and light violet flowers, and grows up to 50 cm in length. It blooms between April and June and is found often on bean family.
