Arisaema japonicum, variable in form and color, is a perennial herb inhabiting damp forest floors in mountainous regions, growing to 50-60cm in height, with two leaves with many pedately divided oblong leaflets, also with oblate-shaped corms underground. Pseudostems are generally purple patches of clouds that may remind of a pit viper. Spathes and leaves open simultaneously, the former ranging from green to purple, with white stripes.
