  • Ranunculus hyperboreus var. natans (C.A. Mey.) Regel

    Aquatic, floating perennial, with fibrous roots, glabrous except sometimes in the upper part of the stems and peduncles. Stems sulcate, branched. 2-3 mm thick. Leaves petiolate, petiole usually 1-4 cm long, with two membraneous scales or auricles present near the base, blade 8-20 x 15-30 m, blade reniform to rounded reniform, 3-5-lobate to the middle or even beyond, lobes shallowly crenate or entire, or ± regularly crenate with broad rounded lobules, 3-7 mm wide at base. Peduncles (10-) 12-25 mm long, opposite, axillary. Flowers yellow, 8-13 mm in diameter. Sepals ovate or rounded-ovate, glabrous, ± 4 mm long, concave. Petals ± 5-6 mm, rounded obovate to rounded ovate. Achenes 1.5-1.9 mm, numerous, inflated, glabrous, smooth forming a big globose head, inserted in a globose sparsely hairy receptacle. Style very short, somewhat hooked at the tip.

    Syntypes, In aquistoquantibus and fl. Tscharysch, Bunge, in fluv. Mon et Tegagom in fl. Tschiya inflatibus, Bunge.

    Chitral: A-6, 7 Agram, 10500', Stainton 2644 (RAW), Gilgit: B-8 Rama, R.R. Stewart & E. Nasir 21875 (RAW), Kashmir: C-8 Kamri, 26.6.1954, R.R. Stewart & E. Nasir s.n. (RAW).

    Distribution: Siberia, Mongolia, Kashmir.

    Found in alpine areas from 3100-5000 m, generally near streams etc.
