Spain is the host of the XXIst Mycological Meeting of C.E.M.M. this year. The Botanical and Mycological Asociation of Jaen has organized this event on Arroyo Frio-La Iruela, with the participation of France, Italy, Norway, Portugal and Slovenia, as well as some other associations from Spain as the Catalan Society of Mycology and Valencian Society of Mycology (SOMIVAL).

In Arroyo Frio we met around 150 people, mainly accommodated at the Rural Montaña Hotel and some other hotels/apartments nearby.

The companions, as it is done every year, enjoyed a guided tour program on the surroundings of the Natural Park of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and las Villas, as a complement to the activities of the Mycological Meeting. On this occasion, the Organization supplied a bus for all the trips and a tour guide.

We greeted the participants with a welcome drink enlivened by the folk group "Las raíces de nuestro pueblo. Jotas y fandangos", who showed the audience a varied repertoire of dances from La Iruela.

The opening of the XXIst Meeting was conducted by Laura Raya López, Regional Coordinator of Plan C.U.S.S.T.A. (conservation and sustainable use of mushrooms and truffles of Andalusia), accompanied by Marie Antoinette Buroni, President of the C.E.M.M.; Jordi Ferrer, 2nd Vice President of the C.E.M.M. and Demetrio Merino, President of the Botanical and Mycological Association of Jaén.

During those days attendees were able to enjoy, besides the activities scheduled in the program, the exhibition "Award-winning photos from our partners" of the Botanical and Mycological Association of Jaén. So far, this collection has 136 photo awards, achieved in various competitions of botanical and mycological photography throughout Spain.

It can be reviewed by using the following link: Galería de socios.

On the other hand, two of our members took a stand to offer craft products with motifs of mushrooms, among others, that were manufactured in their shop "Entre cañas y barro".

As a very kind gesture, the French delegation also invited attendees to a delicious snack with French wine. It was a great moment of relaxation after a session of interesting species review and before entering one of the conferences.

We made four mycological trips daily in the surroundings of the area, a few kilometers away from the hotel. Due to weather conditions prior to the celebration of the XXIst Meeting, it was not necessary a longer journey, since there had been little rainfall during the summer.

At 18.00 sharp every evening, three of our partners (two speakers and a mycological guide) Juan Carlos Campos Casabón, Tomás Illescas Ferrezuelo and Fermín Pancorbo Maza, showed attendees the most interesting species of each excursion, explaining their distinctive characteristics.

We show at the bottom a provisional list of the few localized species, list which will be revised, corrected and confirmed by subsequent publication in the Annals of the C.E.M.M. 2013.

In this link you can enjoy a brief but excellent photo album: "Andalucia: Not a porcino in sight!" posted by Pål Karlsen from the Norwegian delegation, who have been the most numerous group after the Spanish hosts. We thank them for their eternal enthusiasm and poise and from here we encourage them to organize within their possibilities a Meeting of the C.E.M.M. in Norway.

We would also like to thank the French, Italian and Portuguese delegations for their support and kindness, to all our partners in general and specially our mycologists: Juan Carlos Campos, José Cuesta, Paco Figueroa, Tomás Illescas, José Félix Mateo, Fermín Pancorbo and Javier Retamino for their magnificent conferences and for making guides for attendees.

Thanks to Laura Raya, Coordinator of the C.U.S.S.T.A. Plan and her four technicians (Francisco Donaire, Úrsula Osuna, Alicia Paredes and Rosario Velasco) by the conference and the support provided. Thanks to Carolina Linares of the Asociación de Desarrollo Rural Sierra de Cazorla, Diputación of Jaén (Ángeles Férriz, Patricia Leal and Rocío Reche); José Luis Olivares, Concejal de Seguridad Ciudadana of Cazorla, Ayuntamiento of La Iruela and Caja Rural of Jaen for the great interest and support given to us.

Thanks to the steering group of the C.E.M.M., always attentive and their President Marie Antoinette Buroni. Thanks to Jordi Ferrer and Teresa Aragonés, translators of luxury.

Thanks to Iolanda Armand and Giovanni Manavella for their incredible communication on the world of the myxomycetes, which left many attendees wanting to know more about these particular organisms, and thanks to Ita Paz Conde for that excellent audiovisual about the genus Tuber.

Thanks to Radio Nacional de España, Radio La Iruela and Radio Cazorla (and its journalist of Diario de Jaén, María José Bayona) for covering the event.

Thanks to Manuel Martínez, Director of Aceites Cazorla for his wonderful atenttion. To Rosa Valiente, Director of Zabaleta Museum and to Ayuntamiento of Quesada.

Thanks to the town of Arroyo Frío-La Iruela for hosting us, to the traders who collaborated with the advertising of the Meeting (Hams Parque Natural, Pharmacy Arroyo Frío, Pizzeria La Forchetta y Rincones de la Sierra), to the folk group "Las raíces de nuestro pueblo. Jotas y fandangos" (and very especially to Lázara for teaching to future generations) and the Rociero group "Ritmo del Sur" who animated all the participants with their magnificent show, providing great moments.

Thanks to José and Mercedes Ayala and the staff of the Rural Montaña Hotel once more for their infinite patience and the wonderful treatment that have given us,

Thanks to all of those who with their collaboration have made it possible for us to go through a super week and at the same time, we apologize if we have caused any inconvenience to anyone, it was not mean to be, for certain.

Two weeks before holding the Meeting, the speakers and the mycological guides gathered at the Hotel Montana to study the final planning and select places to visit. In one of those places was collected an ascomycete that has turned out to be new to science, and that will be published approximately in mid-2014. By then, extensive information will be available to all stakeholders.

We encourage you to repeat the experience with our French friends. The coming year the XXIIth Mycological Meeting of the C.E.M.M. is going to be held in Ajaccio, Corsica, hand of the F.A.M.M. (Mediterranean Mycological Associations Federation).

Bon voyage.
