As revealed in the solicitation from Marvel released today, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning are coming back to cosmic comics.
For a couple issues, anyway.
Abnett and Lanning, who wrote the Cosmic Marvel Universe for a few years and essentially gave birth to the modern iteration of the Cosmic Marvel U, will be hopping on with Brian Bendis for “Guardians” #14, the 101st issue of the series (without all the relaunches) that is being subbed in as the 100th due to the X-Men crossover. Abnett and Lanning will write two back-up stories to the issue illustrated by an unannounced artist, and the issue will also feature the first appearances of Captain Marvel and Venom on the team.
In addition to that, Abnett and Lanning will be teaming up with artist Wellinton Alves to illustrate a prelude to the Guardians film, which is arguably more exciting. The book will introduce Nebula (played by “Phonogram” author Karen Gillan), who had a brief role in “Annihilation” but never any greater appearance during their run. It’ll be their first cosmic comic together since the end of their run, and it’ll also probably be the first Marvel Cinematic U tie-in comic to be widely bought by fanboys.
