Plants usually small. Stems upright, quite short. Leaves rather narrow, not articulated with the sheaths. Flowers rather narrow and very small, glabrous; flower axis straight, extending from the rachis at a right angle. Tepals straight. Lip with asuricles or heart-shaped , in most cases pandurate, rarely the front part narrowed.


Flowers and inflorerscences or sometimes even leaves and stems turning reddish brown, orange-red, or menie-red when dried.
