Found in Michoacan and Oaxaca states of Mexico and Guatemala on wet rocks and crags at elevations of 250 to 1390 meters as a medium sized, hot to cool growing lithophyte with an erect stem enveloped by many, hyaline, acuminate, arcuate, twisted, inflated bracts, without leaves that wither just before blooming, that blooms in the fall, winter and spring on a terminal, erect, dense, rachis 3.6 to 7.2" [9 to 18 cm] long, subsecund, many flowered inflorescence with elliptic-lanceolate, acuminate, erect-clasping, as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying somewhat large sized for the genus flowers.
