Found in Sierra Leone, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Cameroons, Gabon and Zaire in primary forests at elevations of sea level to 800 meters as a small sized, hot growing epiphyte with 1/4 to 2.8" [.6 to 7 cm] between each, orbicular to narrowly ovoid, slightly compressed, obtusely and sharply 2 to 4 angled pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, oblong to linear-lanceolate, rounded to subacute, coriaceous, thick leaf that blooms on a basal, [28 to 102 cm long, densely to rather laxly, 11 to 102 flowered inflorescence with a few, smelly flowers open at any one time.

A variety of the previous species, differs mostly in location and in the longer, thinner petals and the lip gets less wide towards the base. This variety has the largest distribution of the 3 types.
