Common Name Teague's Masdevallia [American orchid enthusiast in Ecuador Current]

Found in Colombia, Zamora-Chinchipe, Morona-Santiago and Tungurahua provinces of Ecuador and Peru in cloud forests at elevations of 1500 to 2450 meters as a miniature to small sized, cool to cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with blackish, erect, slender ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 loose, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, dark green, elliptical-ovate, subacute to obtuse, cuneate below in to the slender, blackish, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring and fall on an erect, arising from above the base of the ramicaul with a bract above the base, slender, terete, 4.8 to 8.4" [12 to 21 cm] long, congested, successively several flowered inflorescence with loose, tubular, shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.

"The congested, successively flowered raceme about as high as the dark green, petiolate leaf, is borne by an erect, terete peduncle that originates above the base of the ramicaul. The reddish brown, fleshy sepals are connate into a conical tube, the laterals constricted beneath between primary and secondary mentums. The petals are connate to the lower third of the column and are provided with a basal tooth." Luer 2000
