Found in Arizona, Mexico, Belize, Honduras and Nicaragua at elevations of sea level to 1500 meters as a small sized, hot to cool growing growing terrestrial with long grasslike, basal leaves grading to bracts above, that are not present at flowering which is in the late winter and early spring on a terminal, erect, 10" [25 cm] long, glabrous, terete, enveloped by glabrous, acute sheaths, rachis 1.2 to 1.6" [3 to 4 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence with ovate, acuminate, longer tha the ovary floral bracts and carrying fragrant flowers
