This palm is endemic to the Mascarene Islands which are off the coast of Madagascar. It can wind up w/a trunk 25 feet tall and a girth over 12 inches.
I bought this as a conetainer from Kapoho Palms in 1996 and planted it out two years later in 1998. Seems hard to believe this growth. I wonder if I made a mistake in dating this picture?
Here is another 7 years of growth. It will look much nicer if I ever get around to cutting off all the old leaf sheaths.
