Habitat - wild

Habit - Thorny straggling herb up to 1.5 meters height

Regional name:

Malayalam - tudali / tudari

Sanskrit - karkandhu / valli badara

Tamil -surai mullu

Common name - jackal jujube

Botanical name - Ziziphus oenoplia

Family - Rhamnaceae

Leaves - simple, alternate,ovate-lanceolate,acute,with three prominant nerves

Flowers - velvetty,subsessile in axilary cymes

Fruit - black,globose drupes, containing single woody seed.

Thorns - paired,one straight,&other curved.

RASADI

Rasa- tikta-kashaya

Guna- guru

Veerya- seeta

dosha karma- passifies vitiated pitha-kapha

used in peptic ulcer,stomach pain,ascaris infestation ,& wounds

anthelmintic,antiseptic.

notes: i have seen my Guru using this plant for treating oral cancers- as thaila gandoosha, along with other internal medications. [oil prepared out using plant as a whole]

Good to see Z.oenoplia sheji ji... this is taken as Valli badara as per Raja nighantu...i have the photos of the flowers & fruits of this plant... will post them later
