Homestead Fruit and Spice Park

A couple days ago, I mentioned a Fruit and Spice Park in Florida. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind place. The park is owned by the county, so it’s kept pretty well. When you get there, you walk into the welcome center where you pay your entrance fee ($8 for adults) and enter the park. In the welcome center, they also have a variety of fruits you can try. When I was there, they had pink mangosteen, jackfruit, mango, starfruit and a few more that I don’t remember. The rule in the park is that you can eat whatever falls to the ground, but you can’t take any of the fruit out of the park with you.

When we entered the park, there were some cherry trees and near the bathrooms, there was a huge starfruit tree. There was also a wax apple tree. We headed to the tram that would give us an optional hour-long tour of the park, and if we felt up to it afterwards, we could walk around. We saw a bunch of jackfruit trees scattered around the waiting area for the tram.

The park tries to procure as many different types of trees as will grow in South Florida. This includes 167 varieties of mangos and fruit from all over the world!

Definitely an awesome place to hit up if you’re in the South Florida area. It’s about 4 hours away from Orlando. But right by Miami. It’s also a great place to sample tropical fruit without spending lots of money at a fruit stand or at the grocery store. Plus it’s all super fresh.
