Rubha Reidh can be reached by parking at Melvaig (parking limited to 4 cars) & walking the 3 miles along the single track road to the lighthouse. Alternatively a car park is available a few hundred meters from the lighthouse itself. The road from Melvaig is well worth walking with far reaching views across the Minch, with the Outer Hebrides visible on a clear day. Minke Whales, Grey Seals & White Tailed Eagles can sometimes be spied from the coastline. The lighthouse of Rubha Reidh has been in operation since 1912 & was automated in the 1980’s.
From Rubha Reidh it’s the simple task of following the coastal tracks toward Camas Mor. Although as is often the case in the Northwest Highlands the weather can be unpredictable so expect the unexpected & be prepared. Our intention had been to lunch on Camas Mor however the wind prevented us from reaching the cliff’s overlooking the beach, let alone descending to it’s tempting golden sands (a good enough reason to return another time).
A lunch spot with a view
Before the lighthouse was connected by road the old slipway was the way to get too & from Rubha Reidh. The road was finally built in 1962 making it far easier to get from the lighthouse to Gairloch.
From the lighthouse a distinct (ish) cliff side path leads the way towards Camas Mor

The pictures don’t always tell the full story. A good swell was out to sea & it was blowing a hoolie, so it was a day to stay well clear of the edge of the cliff’s.
