Wood species

Very difficult to tell, so difficult that sometimes hundreds of species of tree are labeled as just one species of timber.  It looks like 'mai daeng' (xylia xylocarpa), a very common Thai timber and considered something of a poor mans rosewood.

The legs look like rosewood and very similar to lots of rosewood pieces I have. Yes it weighs a ton I can vouch for that.

The top looks totally different, infact the grain is very similar to an English Ash.

You have to appreciate that you cannot i.d by the colour alone, they will have been stained, even clear stains beautify.

You also have to take into consideration if it is plane quarter or rift sawed this will change the grain that being said it looks like plane sawen

I find the wood here hard to tell what has been used even by grains, I thought wood grains only tell age,  I just go by weight hard - heavy, light - soft.

This site is interesting.
