Mobile County Circuit Court Judge Vicki Davis was sworn into office on August 25 following the June 22 appointment to the bench by Gov. Kay Ivey. Davis is a 1987 Cumberland School of Law alumna and the first and only female African American judge in the 13th Judicial Circuit of Alabama. According to NBC 15, she served as a special circuit court judge presiding over civil and criminal jury trials, and she established a mediation program for small claims civil cases. As an assistant district attorney for Mobile County, she was the team leader for murder prosecutions. As an assistant U.S. attorney, she was tapped to serve as chief of the criminal division’s senior litigation counsel, a chairperson of the diversity committee and the district election officer. Prior to joining the staff of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, she was the legal adviser to the Mobile Police Department, an associate with Alford Clausen & McDonald and municipal judge for the City of Prichard. She has served as a trainer for various law enforcement agencies. Davis was appointed to fill the seat left vacant by the late Judge James Patterson.
