This member of the Euphorbiaceae family was given this name by Nicholas Edward Brown in 1911. It is found in a small area in south-eastern Kenya and north-eastern Tanzania, growing in a well drained sandy soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to six centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to fifteen centimetres in height. The flowers are pinkish-brown.

The genera is named after Euphorbos, the Greek physician of King Juba II of Numidia. The species name from Latin: furca, referring to the forks of the branches.
