Hi Friends!

I have so much exciting news to share with you this month, I’ll just dive in and get started…

Picture Perfect: The Book

Available now as an e-book and in Paperback at Amazon.com

Back in November, I hosted a live presentation about writing picture books. It attracted almost a thousand live viewers and has been watched thousands of times since. The talk ran for almost an hour, and I didn’t even come close to spilling all the secrets I’ve learned in my time as a children’s book editor and author, so I sat down and wrote a book about it. The result, Picture Perfect: An insider’s guide to writing picture books, is now available exclusively on Amazon.com. I’m offering it for FREE to KindleUnlimited subscribers or $6.99 as an e-book. The paperback version will be available soon for $12.99.

The Picture Perfect Podcast

Every good non-fiction book needs a podcast, right? In writing the book, I found there were some areas I really wanted to dive deeper into, and a podcast seemed like the perfect extension of that message. I’ve gotten really into podcasts since I started driving a lot more each day, and I think it’s changed the way I think and live and conduct business for the better. The Picture Perfect Podcast trailer is up on Spotify, Amazon Music, I Heart Radio and Stitcher. Subscribe to get notified when the first episode drops!

In other news…

  • I’ve just finished judging the 2023 SCBWI-LA mentorship contest. There were so many amazing submissions it was really hard to choose! Keep an eye out for the announcement later this month!
The winner will receive a six-month mentorship with me and I’m so excited to work with them to develop their writing voice and embark on a picture book writing journey together.
  • Starting in May, I will be launching the Writers’ Community Workshops through the Coffeehouse Collective. This monthly subscription will offer weekly online group critique sessions across multiple writing genres with cohort and professional feedback in a round table setting.
  • Looking for a virtual school visit or writing workshop? Reply to this email to request information about online creativity workshops, customized curriculum guides, or asynchronous writing support for students and classrooms.

Writing Mentorships Available now at 15% off if you sign up before April 30, 2023

While there can be only one contest winner, I do have 5 slots open for one-on-one six-week picture book writing mentorships starting April 1. The six-week mentorship includes a 45-minute weekly video chat and weekly edits to help polish your manuscript and get it ready for pitching.

To celebrate the launch of my book, Picture Perfect, I’m offering a 15% price reduction on writing mentorships through April 30, 2023. Click here for details and scroll down for pricing.
