Through data collection and policy analysis, my colleague and I sought to answer the question of: “How has the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) been responding to recovery strategies of Species at Risk in Ontario (SARO) based on Government response statements?”

In order to examine the overall efficacy of the MNRF’s response, a spreadsheet was created which compiled data of over 160 endangered and threatened species on the SARO list. Once data was collected, researchers created a system of colour-coding which allowed the data to be interpreted at ease.

Results from this assessment indicate that the MNRF has failed to produce a solidified RS for many Endangered and Threatened species within the appropriate time frames or at all.
