| Description |
silver daisy, Erigeron argentatus, California, White Mountains, Black Mountain, Owens Valley drainage, elevation 2394 m (7855 ft). Silver daisy (named for the silvery hairs of the foliage) is endemic to middle elevations of the southern and eastern Great Basin region of Nevada and adjacent western Utah, northwestern Arizona, and eastern California. It reaches its southwestern limits here in the Inyo and White Mountains, where it is found only on shallow, carbonate-rich rocky soils and outcrops in the pinyon-juniper woodland zone. This and a few related Erigeron species of the Intermountain Region are distinctive for having heads with graduated phyllaries and non-compressed seeds, and have sometimes been recognized as Erigeron section Wyomingia (based on the genus Wyomingia A. Nelson). |
