Allium scabriscapum Boiss: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Critically endangered species. It is situated in the northern border of the main area of distribution. Only one sub–population is known the extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy of which are less than 10 km2. It was included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia under Category 0: Apparently disappearing species. It was collected several times in the recent years. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.

Description. Bulbous plant. Stem 20–40 cm. Leaves flat. Inflorescence hemispherical, few–flowered. Perianth cup–shaped; segments yellow, elliptical.

Distribution. In Armenia it is found only in Darelegis (Ayar gorge, between the villages Agarakadzor and Boloraberd) floristic region. AOO is 8 km2, the number of locations is 1. Beyond the borders of Armenia it is distributed in Nakhichevan, South–East Anatolia, North Iraq, North and South Iran and Turkmenia.

Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in middle mountain belt, at the altitudes of 1000–1500 meters above sea level, on stony slopes and screes. Flowering in May, fruiting from June to July.

Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, loss/degradation of habitats caused by anthropogenic factor.

Conservation actions. No conservation actions. Necessary: monitoring of the population state, search of new habitats.
