Iris Chrysographes, commonly known as black iris is a bushy, deciduous perennial with dark green, long narrow leaves. In May and June the Iris Chrysographes blooms tall erect stems with deep black and violet colours flowers with golden yellow veins which create a wonderful view held above the foliage.
This Iris often is planted in flower beds and borders where it looks great with other perennials and shrubs, however can make a good feature in a boggy area of the garden by the side of a pond or river. Suiting a variety of planting schemes and garden types including cottage gardens and informal schemes.
Iris Chrysographes care
Plant the Iris Chrysographes in sunny, partially shaded areas of the garden with a well drained, boggy, moist soil, coping next to water for example where it will thrive. We would recommend to mulch well in spring months to maintain the moisture and suppress any weeds. Prune back any dead or damaged foliage in autumn months and once flowered cut back old flower stems.
