Salix Exigua commonly known as Coyote Willow is a deciduous, suckering shrub which forms a deep thicket of narrow, lance shaped mid green leaves, when young with a grey/silvery tinge, and in the months of March to April the Salix Exigua will bloom these small yellow corn like flowers which add even more colour.
Planting locations include flower beds and borders, banks and slopes and if planted in groups or in a line can create a lovely informal hedging/screening plant for privacy in the garden.
Salix Exigua care
The Salix Exigua thrives in a sunny, partially shaded area of the garden with moist, well drained soils, this plant dislikes chalk soils but can grow well in sandy soils. The Salix needn’t require much, if any pruning making a good plant for low maintenance gardens. In spring simply remove any branches which grow out of the plants natural framework. This may never be required as the Salix will form naturally a good framework.
