Talking about potential tie-ups with the Marvel Cinematic Universe or James Gunn’s DCU, Snyder doesn’t seem to have a problem joining either of them. The franchise that Snyder does have a problem with is the iconic franchise…Star Wars.

Zack Snyder Will Never Work In The Star Wars Franchise

Having worked with James Gunn on multiple occasions, it was Gunn who overtook control of the DCU after Zack Snyder departed the franchise. With an incomplete Justice League in the works, Snyder had to leave the project due to some personal reasons and Joss Whedon took over.

Ever since the incident, Snyder and Warner Bros. had a strained relationship. The bond finally broke when WB had to forcefully agree to Snyder directing and releasing the Snyder Cut due to public pressure. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporterthe director talked about his future and how he would never work in the Star Wars franchise.

“Nah, I don’t think so [about the Star Wars franchise]. Those guys have a handle on the brand.”

As per Snyder, the director had indeed initially pitched a film to Lucasfilm back in 2012.

“I thought that Star Wars was in a vulnerable state, so I thought I had a chance.”

The director further revealed that after Disney purchased Lucasfilm, Snyder gave up hope but his wife, Deborah Snyder was quite happy.

“She never wanted this to go to Lucasfilm. You think you have a hard time with DC? You think you’re mad at them because they won’t let you do what you want? What do you think Star Wars is going to be?’ When it fell apart, she was like, ‘This is the best thing that could have happened to you.’”

Although he couldn’t (and doesn’t want to) join the Star Wars franchise, Zack Snyder is open to the possibility of working with James Gunn or Marvel again.

As the interview progressed, the director talked about the possibility of working with Marvel Studios or the DCU again. The interviewer asked Snyder whether he would pick up the call if Marvel called. Snyder revealed that he would be down to make the movie if it was a Daredevil and Elektra movie or adapting the comic book Elektra Lives Again.

As for James Gunn’s DCU, the director wants to direct an adaptation of Dark Knight Returns but “only a true representation of the graphic novel”.  So, all in all, there is a very likely possibility that Snyder could be seen once again in the MCU or the DCU.
