Rhizomatous perennial. Stems erect, 30–75 cm. Herbage scabrous, sparsely strigose, glandular above. Leaves cauline, sessile or subsessile, lanceolate to obovate or ovate, strongly serrate, 5–15 cm long, the lowest deciduous. Inflorescence corymbiform, leafy bracteate; peduncles stipitate-glandular. Involucre campanulate, 9–12 mm high; phyllaries linear-lanceolate, glandular, ciliate, white below, green above with purple tips. Rays 12 to 35; ligules 10–15 mm long.
