I've loved Garfield since I was kid reading and collecting the books of comic strips. The animated Halloween and Christmas specials are classics. I enjoyed the two Bill Murray voiced films for what they were. I am optimistic for this one as well.

The Bill Murray Garfield films, I guess were okay. I only saw the first one in theaters and as a big Garfield fan, felt it was lacking, so avoided the 2nd. Murray did a decent job with the voice too, though it's tough to top the original voice of Lorenzo Music, who died.

The ongoing comedy between Jon Arbuckle vs Garfield is the key to the comedy IMO.

Yeah, if this film can hit The Peanuts' level of accuracy to the classic cartoons and style, that would be welcome.

Too be honest I only like the Garfield and Friends show and the specials done around that time. It would be nice if this movie could be as good or at least close to it.

Great that a 6'5" movie star is taking a role away from some talented voice actor that might not be the definition of action hero. See also: Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, ect.

It's only a matter of time before Dolph Lundgren voices Harley Quinn...

Garfield will be Chris Pratt's fifth staring voice role in an animated feature film:

The LEGO Movie (2014)
The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part (2019)
Onward (2020)
Super Mario Bros (2023)
Garfield (2024)

I thought he was great as Barley Lightfoot in Onward. He used a lot of inflection and was really animated. It wasn't just his plain speaking voice.

It's the same image from when the movie was first announced eight months ago. I'm not sure where that design came from.

[Show spoiler]Chris Pratt is going to voice the lasagna-loving, Monday-hating comic strip cat Garfield in a new animated movie.

Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson’s Alcon Entertainment is behind the new Garfield, which has been picked up for worldwide (excluding China) release by Sony Pictures. The script written by Oscar nominee David Reynolds (Finding Nemo) is being directed by Mark Dindal (Chicken Little), with the duo having previously worked together on The Emperor’s New Groove.

Created by Jim Davis, Garfield debuted as a comic character first in 1978, with the lazy tabby cat often appearing alongside Jon Arbuckle, his human owner, and the lovable household dog Odie. Originally appearing in 41 newspapers, Garfield currently holds the record for being the most widely syndicated comic strip in the world.

Alcon acquired the rights from Davis, who will serve as an executive producer on the film, along with Bridget McMeel from Amuse and Craig Sost. John Cohen and Steven P. Wegner produce alongside Kosove and Johnson. DNEG Animation, which recently worked in the animated feature Ron’s Gone Wrong, will animate and produce the film. DNEG CEO Namit Malhotra and president Tom Jacomb are both serving as producers.

Garfield previously appeared on the big screen in live-action/animated hybrid Garfield in 2004 and its sequel, 2006’s Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties. In these movies, both produced by 20th Century Fox, Bill Murray voiced the titular cat.

Pratt’s voice work includes the Lego Movie films and Pixar’s Onward, as well as the upcoming Super Mario Bros. animated movie from Universal and Nintendo, where he will be playing Mario. The actor, repped by UTA, Rise Management and Sloane Offer, was most recently seen in Amazon’s sci-fi feature The Tomorrow War and is due back in theaters with Jurassic World: Dominion.

Reynolds, who started his career on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, is repped by Gersh.

It's funny. I remember going to watch the Bill Murray Garfield film on what must've been my twelfth birthday. I'll be 30 this month.

It's sad that Murray's so down on them. They weren't great films, that's true, but Murray just fits Garfield. His persona was just perfect for Garfield.

They had no choice. Only Frank Welker, a professional voice actor, could do Scooby's voice. If there was some big name celebrity who could do a half decent Scooby impression you best believe they'd have got them.
