Hand Carved Mani Stones

A small selection of some recent Mani stones that I’ve been carving. These are hand carved in my workshop in the Scottish Borders from natural stones and sea stones (mantras range from approximately 19 to 25 cm).

I’m the only person in the UK who carves and sells Tibetan Buddhist mantra and syllable stones. I supply Kagyu Samye Ling (the largest Tibetan Buddhist centre in Western Europe) as well as Kagyu Samye Dzong in London and Santosa in Edinburgh.

If you would like me to carve a Tibetan Buddhist stone for you, just get in touch (I usually have a small selection of these in stock, or I can create one for you).

A Mani Stone from Cornwall

I was asked to carve a large Mani Stone for a garden in the West of Scotland.

On my travels down through South West Cornwall, we visited Godrevy beach and I found the perfect stone on the shoreline.

Approximately 60 cm long and a lovely stone to carve. Detailing carved with a 1 mm diamond burr, whilst the majority was carved using hammer and chisel.

Hand Carved Mani Stones

Delivered two of my Mani Stones to Samye Ling Tibetan Buddhist Monastery this week.

Very chuffed that they are stocking my work- it’s an amazing place.

These are hand-carved from large Cornish sea-stones which I collected from beaches in North Cornwall.

Mani Stone

One of the first Mani stones that I carved (back in 2014).

This was relief carved into a natural piece of Cornish slate using a Dremel 3000 and silicon carbide burrs (my technique for carving these has changed and developed over the years and I now use traditional hammer and chisel for the majority of the carving).
