Legendary actor of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan publicly went through a financial crisis in the late 90s after his business failed. On several occasions, Big B has opened up about the tough phase and how he tackled it. Recently, Abhishek Bachchan also recalled returning from the US to help his father.

In an interview with Galatta Plus roundtable, Abhishek Bachchan recalled the time he wanted to enter Bollywood. Admitting that he always wanted to become an actor, Abhishek revealed that none of the filmmakers were ready to take the responsibility of launching Amitabh Bachchan's only son.

After a bunch of failed attempts at debuting, Abhishek Bachchan revealed that he got the chance to make an appearance at the Filmfare Awards, one of the biggest events in Bollywood at the time. The award ceremony was a huge deal for making a fashion statement, meeting every individual from the industry and marking your presence in the industry.

Abhishek went on to recall, ''Filmfare, 20 years ago, you planned months in advance about what you’d wear. And nobody was giving away free clothes in those days, you’d have to buy them yourself. You’d make sure you weren’t shooting that evening, the entire industry would show up, even if they weren’t nominated. It was an occasion.''

He continued, ''But then, I was like, ‘What to wear?’ It sounds weird to (say it now) but I didn’t have that many clothes, we couldn’t afford to… We were going through a rough time, and trying to be as frugal as we could be''.

At last, the actor recycled an old outfit. ''The sherwani that was made for my sister’s wedding a couple of years earlier, I wore that and went,'' he revealed. At the award ceremony, JP Dutta collected his Best Director Award for Border and spotted Abhishek Bachchan.

The filmmaker later called him to his office and the duo then went on to work in Refugee. The 2000 film was Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor's debut film.
