Epigeneium triflorum v. orientale

triflorum022320.jpgI purchased this Epigeneium triflorum v. orientale from Andy’s Orchids at the 2020 Pacific Orchid Exposition in San Francisco on February 21, 2020.  It is a large rangy plant, growing out of an 8″ net pot.  It seems to be growing with very little media — just a small amount of sphagnum moss.

According to IOSPE, it grows best in an intermediate environment, and needs partial shade, blooming in winter and early spring.  Andy’s Orchids lists it as an intermediate-to-warm grower, with bright indirect light and 3-5 waterings per week.  No one lists a winter’s rest for this plant.

I will initially keep it in the canopy part of the greenhouse, where it is a little warmer, and where some of my larger plants hang.  This one will probably be good-sized soon.
