Shark Bay to Israelite Bay, growing in sandy, sandy-clay and lateritic soils in forests woodlands and shrublands. The species does not require fire to flower but does flower in greater numbers in the season following summer fire.

An early flowering species 100–250 mm high with one or two smooth red-striped leaves 10–40 mm long by 10–20 mm wide and up to four green and purple flowers 9–12 mm across. A few weeks after opening flowers develop a slightly shrivelled appearance but otherwise hold their form.
