Species Information

General:
Perennial grass from stout rhizomes; stems 100-150 cm tall.
Leaves:
Sheaths open, strongly keeled, usually smooth; blades flat, firm, elongate, 5-10 mm wide, narrowed gradually to slender tips; ligules 2-6 mm long, jagged.
Flowers:
Inflorescence an open panicle, 15-25 cm long, the branches mostly smooth below midlength, ascending; spikelets 3- to 4-flowered; lower glumes 4-6 mm long, the upper ones 5-7 mm long, awnless; lemmas about 6 mm long, 7-nerved; calluses bearded; anthers 3-4 mm long.
