Choi Min-soo's son will establish a rare Korean record as a fourth consecutive-generation actor when he appears in a new TV drama on MBC.

The seasoned actor, who debuted in 1985 with a short film and has been influential in Korean acting since, accepted a proposal from the drama's producers that his eldest son Chris, 21, appear. The show's first episode airs later this month.

Min-soo is born of Choi Moo-ryong, a popular actor of the 1960s and 1970s, and actress Kang Hyo-shil.

His maternal grandmother was actress Jeon Ok and grandfather actor Kang Hong-shik, also a film director and singer during the Japanese colonial period (1910-45).

Min-soo said he initially rejected the proposal because "people may think I am doing my son a favor using my professional influence." But he allowed Chris the opportunity because it is not a fixed role but a cameo. He said for him, "acting my character's younger version" might mean something.

In the comedy-drama, Min-soo plays a Korean man who migrated to a Middle East country in the 1970s and returns to Korea to find his daughter. Chris plays the man in a scene where he briefly recalls his past.

Min-soo said Chris is interested in acting but whether he will professionally act remains to be seen. He said he will "by no means roll out a carpet for my son to follow my track. If it's his business, he will have to do it on his own."

The father and son regularly appeared in reality show "What is Mom" on TV Chosun in 2015-16. Min-soo's wife Kang Joo-eun, a former Miss Korea winner from Canada, youngest son and their pet dog were in the show that revealed their lifestyle in a luxurious apartment in Seocho-gu, Seoul.

In 2011, Chris "unexpectedly" played a cameo role after visiting a location for SBS TV drama "Warrior Baek Dong-soo" to watch his father act.
