As we reach the end of Winter and enter Spring the range of native orchids to find and photograph increases rapidly – check the Flowering Times Guide and try your favourite places.

I will be focusing initially on the Waverley Flora Park, Bellerive; East Risdon Reserve and the Peter Murrell Reserve at Blackmans Bay. Also targets during Summer.

Good luck and feel free to share information and images of your finds.

  1. Tasmania is an almost untouched ‘canvas’ in terms of the as yet visited orchid habitats – this is one of the very positive challenges; to find, photograph and share information!

  2. Found the first Glossodia major in flower in Peter Murrell Reserve today, as well as chiloglottis triceratops and pterostylis mellagamma in the Waterworks reserve.

  3. It is an exciting time as the native orchids appear for a new year. We should be looking out for Caladenia echidnachila and the first of the small Caladenia – Caladenia carnea.

Good hunting and we will catch up shortly for a ‘hunt’ in one of our favourite sites.
