The Orchis italica, also known as the Naked Man Orchid or the Italian Man Orchid, belongs to the Orchidaceae family and the Orchis genus. The plant stands between 20 and 50 centimeters tall, with flowers blooming at the apex.

The flowers, which are a whitish pink or purple color, have helmet-like petals adorned with dark stripes, and the overall design of the flower resembles a naked man wearing a straw hat. The fruit stands erect, and the blossoming period extends from April to May.

This orchid thrives in grasslands, limestone soils, fallow lands, and forest regions, and is originally from the Mediterranean region.

Growth and Distribution

The Orchis italica is indigenous to the Mediterranean region. It grows primarily along the Mediterranean coast and is found in the Middle East, Malta, Cyprus, Turkey, Aegean Islands, Greece, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. It is especially abundant on the Greek tourist island of Crete.
