Welcome, race fans, to another Dreamcast racing game: Flag to Flag! It is also one of the launch titles for the Dreamcast. I only had the demo disc, but I burned it around ten years later in 2009/2010. It was developed by the still-active ZOOM Inc. and published by Sega. The game also got a release in Brazil, as the Dreamcast was popular there at the time.

Flag to Flag is licensed by the now-closed Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) racing league. It is based on the 1998 CART FedEx Championship Series. The game contains 19 race tracks, 27 drivers, and 18 teams that were used in the 1998 CART Season. MobyGames describes this video game:

Have a quick race or fight the CART championship in this officially-licensed racing game. It features 19 accurately-modeled tracks including ovals, street, and road courses, all based on the real thing. You can choose from 27 drivers and 17 official teams. The simulation mode lets you tweak the tires, suspension, and steering for each race, and simulates damage and tire degradation. Each race includes practice and qualifying sessions, and variable weather effects.

CART was dissolved after the 2003 season, and this game was not released in Europe, likely due to the motorsport lacking awareness outside of North America. Akihito Okawa and Houzou Okazaki are the game’s composers. The game received “mixed” reviews according to the now-closed review aggregation website GameRankings. In Japan, Famitsu gave it a score of 27 out of 40. You can find the game on eBay sold at reasonable prices. Please remember to drive responsibly when on the road, always fasten your seat belt and obey your country’s traffic laws, and please don’t drink and drive. Thanks for reading.
