14 DAY TRIAL // Nokia 8800 Arte, a mobile phone that falls by default into the "luxury" category, will soon come in a new Diamond Edition. Although there already is a Diamond Edition of the handset, this new one has more diamonds and it's obviously more expensive.
Created by Thomas Heyerdahl, a famous jeweler from Oslo, Norway, the Nokia 8800 Arte Diamond Edition has a retail price that won't allow too many users to buy it: 30,000 Norwegian krone, which means about $6,000 or 3,810 Euros. The new Diamond 8800 Arte will be available by the end of June, as a limited edition (only 100 units will be made), in select Nokia retail stores as well as in Heyerdahl stores. Apparently, the handset will only be sold in Norway, which is bad news for luxury lovers from other countries.
The Heyerdahl edition of Nokia 8800 Arte has 112 diamonds encrusted on its d-pad and around its stainless steel case. Aside from this, its features do not differ from the ones found in the original version of 8800 Arte. Therefore, the rich users who want to buy the handset will get a 2 inch OLED TFT scratch-resistant screen with 16 million colors and 240 x 320 pixels, tri-band GSM connectivity (900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) with EDGE, plus 3G/UMTS for high data transfer speeds, a 3.15 Megapixel photo camera with auto focus and video, 1GB of internal memory, Bluetooth, Music player, email and Web capabilities, handsfree, USB and so on.
Coming in a slider form factor, the handset weighs 150 grams (although the diamonds will give the new luxury edition some extra weight) and measures 109 x 45.6 x 14.6 mm (when closed, of course).
