Karen Hansen: “Phylogenetic assessment of Pezizomycetes”

Thursday, 10. November 2016 at 15.15

In Tartu, Lai 40-218 (Vaga auditorium)

Abstract:
Karen Hansen will talk about her research in Pezizomycetes (“operculate discomycetes”) at different taxonomic levels. The first part of the talk will focus on ongoing research trying to robustly resolve the deeper branches in the phylogeny of the class, with examples on evolutionary trends in lifestyle and morphological features. The second part will give a brief overview of species delimitation and relationships in the genus Otidea, using multiple gene phylogenies and comparative morphology.

Karen Hansen works as a senior curator of the mycological collections at the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm. She will act as opponent at the PhD defense of Kadri Pärtel on 11th of November.
