Plants shrubs or perennial herbs, with branched and/or simple hairs. Inflorescences terminal, spicate, open or dense; bracts irregularly arranged along the axes, much smaller than and distinct from the leaves; bracteoles absent. Calyces shortly 5-lobed, 15-veined; corollas 5-lobed, slightly or indistinctly 2-lipped upper lips 2-lobed, almost flat, lower lips 3-lobed, the lobes longer than the 2 upper lobes; stamens not protruding beyond the mouths of the corolla tubes; styles not protruding beyond the mouths of the corolla tubes, with short, wide branches. Nutlets oblong or narrowly elliptic, with more or less distinct areoles at the attachment scar.
Lavandula includes about 41 species (POWO 2022-08-07). There are 5 species in Somaliland and Somalia.
