Plants annual or perennial herbs or shrubs. Leaves alternate. Inflorescences terminal, of solitary capitula or capitula in corymbs or, rarely, racemes. Capitula radiate, heterogramous; phyllaries in 1-2(-4) series; ray flowers: tubes short, rays narrow, oblong; disk flowers: tubes graduateely widened distally, 5-lobed; anthers with ovate apical appendages; styles shallowly divided. Achenes hard, straight or slightly incurved, triangular or terete, with or without wings; pappuses absent.
Osteospermum includes about 70 species. They are native in Africa and Arabia.
The Flora of Somalia reports two species from Somaliland; one of them is also known from Somalia.
