Bouknight And Hobson Record Three Hits Apiece

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 12-7 non-conference contest to Augusta at SRP Park Tuesday evening.

The Pacers are now 8-23 on the season.

Head coach Michael Holder's team jumped on top with three runs in the first inning. With two down, Capers Molinaroli reached on an error and moved to second on a base knock from Luke Parker. An error allowed Kaden Usry to reach base and a walk to Joseph Mozingo pushed Molinaroli across home plate. Doom Dennis ripped a pitch for a single, driving in Parker and Usry for a 3-0 edge.

Up 3-2 in the second inning, Jack Hobson doubled to left field and moved to third on a Brock Myers sacrifice bunt. Josh Sharp's one-bag hit made it 4-2 as Hobson trotted home. After a pitching change, Sharp stole second and scored on Molinaroli's base hit.

The Jaguars scored two in the second and three in the third inning for a 7-5 lead.

Trailing 9-5 in the eighth, Cade Bouknight registered a lead-off single. A wild pitch allowed him to move to second base. Hobson's single drove him in. Moments later, Parker's single plated Hobson, pulling the visitors within two at 9-7. A fly ball ended the threat with two runners on base.

Down 12-7 in the ninth, Bouknight recorded a two-out single and Hobson's base hit put him on second base. However, the team was unable to push across any more runs.

For the game, Bouknight and Hobson had three hits apiece. Molinaroli, Parker and Sharp notched two hits each. Dennis led the way with two RBI while Hobson crossed home plate twice.

On the mound, Evan Condon got the start and had a strikeout. Cole Evilsizor, Jaylen Merchant, Lucas Highberger, Jacob Bodkin, AJ Deibel, Louie Smith, Jared Huse and Blayne Newman all saw time in the game. Merchant posted three strikeouts while Highberger added one.

The Pacers return to action Thursday when they host Georgia College & State University at 6 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
