Anthony Hopkins heads from Hollywood to Wales as nomination heats up

While buzz gathers in Hollywood over Anthony Hopkin’s Oscar-nominated role in “The Father,” we hear that the star is instead in the (less glamorous, more bucolic) Welsh countryside.

A source told us, “He’s currently in Wales, after spending most of the pandemic in California. He returned home to the Welsh countryside just in time to be honored by his fellow countrymen with the BAFTA.”

He posted a pic on Twitter of the land with the message, “Trees, brooks, and books… Back home in Wales.” He also told fans he’s been painting and taking walks.

One Welsh outlet gushed this week: “One of Wales’s finest actors is back where he belongs — in the land of his fathers — the land that he loves.”

If Hopkins does win the Oscar, the acceptance speech should be interesting. He recently posted a TikTok video with an Easter egg to his ear saying, “Hello? Easter bunny?” then singing, “Ah, hello! Sweet mystery of life, at last I’ve found you! We’re gonna be a star!”

Happy Easter everyone, from the other side of the pond.

(Not many TikTokers likely recognized the tune as an off-kilter adaptation of “Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life” from the 1910 Broadway show, “Naughty Marietta.”)

He will be the oldest Oscar nominee ever for Best Actor at 82. He last won for 1992 classic “Silence of the Lambs.”

“The Father” was one of the few films that didn’t go digital, but played theaters before hitting VOD in March. The Post called the film Hopkins “best work in years.”
