Habit: Twiggy slender stems, less rounded habit than most rhododendrons. Grows to 7-8 m. Sinuous branching, multiple stems, strong upright similar to Enkianthus.
Leaves: Small leaves, ovate, smooth fuzz on underside of leaves.
Leaf Arrangement: alternate
Flowers and Fruit: Blue-purple flowers, late April.

Water Use, Soil: Likes woodland soil, good drainage
Exposure: Best in part shade, protected from wind.
Landscape Uses: Massing, texture, spring interest, blue colour.
Limitations: Poor drainage leads to root rot.
