The so-called pickle plant (Delosperma echinatum) is a member of the Aizoaceae family and is not related to the cucumbers. It takes its name from the shape of its leaves, which are said to look like small cucumbers and are covered with pointed but soft nubs. It can grow up to 20 centimetres tall and is native to South Africa.
