Jatropha berlandieri (Jatropha cathartica Teran & Berland, Berlandier's nettlespurge) is a tuberous plant that grows from a wrinkled and with a rough texture bulb (caudex) into a beautiful blooming plant. The plant has palmate leaves. Showy bright pink to poppey red flowers, arrayed in loose clusters at the ends of long stalks. The plant grows during spring and summer and goes dormant in winter time. 

Jatropha berlandieri is native to hot ad arid regions of Texas and Mexico, where it grows in clay soil. This plant has adapted to drought and can survive many days without rain. It will grow in sun or shade, but will rot in a cold, damp environment.

Jatropha berlandieri is easy to care for, following its basic care requirements of bright light, low humidity and warm place.

  • Light: Happy at bright indirect/ direct sun light. 

  • Temperature: 17°C – 27ºC.

  • Soil: sand-based soil (for example cacti & succulent potting mix).

  • Fertilizer: Use a week liquid fertilizer once in a growing season.

  • Toxicity: The plant is poisonous to people and pets.
