Distribution: Tropical Asia
Description: Small trees. Leaves simple, alternate, estipulate, clustered at the apex of branchlets. Flowers bisexual, greenish-white, in terminal spikes. Fruit a berry, globose.

Habitat: Moist deciduous forests, also in the plains

Parts used: Bark, fruit, root and flowers
Properties & Uses: Anthelmintic and anti-pyretic. Bark is used to treat tumors, bronchitis, urinary discharges, piles, cough, cold, fever, small pox and skin diseases. Fruits are used in indigestion. Leaves are applied as a poultice to promote healing of ulcers. Juice of fresh flowers mixed with honey is used to treat cold and cough.
