Damage, symptoms and biology

Circular black leaf spots form on both sides of leaves.

This fungus causes severe defoliation of balsam poplar in several large areas of Ontario almost every year.

Other information

Septoria populicola is the asexual stage (anamorph) of Mycosphaerella populicola.
